Ready-to-install Designer Sink Cabinets Make Glamour Easy

We've all drooled over the expensive designer sink cabinets in the powder rooms of showhouses and magazines.

At the request of upscale homeowners, decorators have been taking antique or painted chests and transforming them into powder room sinks by cutting a hole in the top and retrofitting them with basins, faucets and plumbing. The problem: This retrofit is a lot of work and very expensive.

Now, Hooker Furniture is making it possible to have the glamorous look for a fraction of the price and hassle of a custom job. At the Spring International Home Furnishings Market, Hooker introduced a line of ready-to-install designer sink cabinets. The sinks have custom basins and faucets and an innovative sliding door on the back to allow easy installation.

Unlike converted chests, which often have drawers sealed shut, Hooker's sink cabinets have handy swing-out drawers and roomy cabinet storage.

"We've brought the Old World European look and feel for the powder room and made it accessible," said Mike Spece, Hooker Furniture senior vice president.

Styles include a farmhouse country design with rubbed red finish, a serpentine-shaped chest with floral hand-painting, a hand-painted black chest with gold rub-through and a fruitwood-finished chest with chocolate marble top.
